The word "*polygon*"comes from the Greek word"*squalid*", which means to have many sides or angles. In geometry, polygon is a flat figure bounded by a closed polygonal line.

## Polygon classification

The names of the polygons depend on the criteria we use to classify them. If we use the number of angles or the number of sides, we have the following nomenclature:

NUMBER OF SIDES (OR ANGLE) | POLYGON NAME

IN FUNCTION OF NUMBER OF ANGLES | IN FUNCTION OF NUMBER OF SIDES

3 | triangle | trilateral |

4 | quad | quadrilateral |

5 | Pentagon | pentalater |

6 | hexagon | hexalateral |

7 | heptagon | heptalateral |

8 | octagon | octolater |

9 | eneagon | enealátero |

10 | decagon | decalateral |

11 | undecagon | undecalátero |

12 | dodecagon | dodecalátero |

15 | pentagon | pentadecalátero |

20 | icosagon | icosalateral |
