The Easter that happened earlier

Easter 2008 happened very early on March 23rd. In fact, it was earlier than any of us will see during our lives!

The last time this happened was in 1913. The next time Easter will take place on March 23, will be in the year 2228. Therefore, we will not be here to witness (at least in this life, for those who thought of reincarnation).

And can Easter happen even earlier? Yes you can! In the year 2285, it will take place on March 22!

But what is the correct Easter date anyway? It always happens on the first Sunday after the full moon, after the March equinox. During the year there are two equinoxes, the first on 21 March and the second on 23 September. These are the only two days of the year where the day is exactly the same in hours, minutes, and seconds as the night.

Easter is always the first Sunday after the first full moon, after the spring equinox. The date is based on the lunar calendar that the Hebrew people used to identify the Passover, which is why Passover is a moving feast on the Roman calendar.
